Crendon FASTRACK Honda team leader Conrad Mewse clinched the 2026 MX1 British championship with yet another perfect score in the series finale at Blaxhall in Suffolk in front of a bumper crowd. He was fastest in qualifying, then ran away with both races to clinch his sixth British championship crown.
Arriving at the track with a large buffer which meant all he needed was a single ninth place finish from the two motos, Mewse romped to the win in the opening race which was enough to take the crown. With the pressure off, he was unstoppable in race two.
With the whole team sporting special FASTRACK graphics to honour one of the team’s major sponsors which are based nearby, Mewse said his plan was not just to ride for points but to win both races.
He got a great start in the opener, although former British champion and ex-factory Honda HRC rider Evgeny Bobryshev took the holeshot in a one-off wildcard ride. Mewse tailed the Russian until lap two then made the decisive move and began to edge away. With title rival Oliver Oriol not racing due to injury, the only man who could mathematically catch Mewse was Ben Watson in third. Watson passed Bobryshev in lap seven but was no match for the Honda man who took the win – and the title – with a 24-second margin.
Watson led race two from Mewse and Bobryshev, but the new No.1 took the lead on the second lap when the race was red-flagged so medics could attend to a crashed rider.
With the race re-started, Mewse led away but Watson kept the pressure on. But Mewse was perfect once again, this time winning by five seconds in his seventh moto win of the season.
Mewse said: “It’s been an awesome season! I started off a bit slow after a double hip operation in the winter. Last November I couldn’t even walk so I’m very grateful to be where I am today.
“It was a journey to get back from that and I’ve had some major competition this year so it’s extra special to do it. It’s been a fantastic year and the whole Crendon FASTRCK Honda team have been faultless, as always.
“The Honda CRF450R has been amazing. In four years with the team, we’ve never had a single mechanical failure which is incredible. And to wrap it up with another one-one ride, with so many friends and family here, is very special. Now I just have the Weston Beach Race to go!”
It was also a solid end to the season for hisMX1 team-mate Jamie Carpenter who has spent the whole season still struggling with a knee injury. He toughed it out in race one to take tenth, but as the track got rougher for race two he went even better and finished in well-deserved seventh place. That gave him eighth overall on the day and ninth in the series.
Carpenter said: “My goal was to get to the end of the season and finish all the races and I did that. I was so uncomfortable coming into this last round I thought about sitting it out. But I’m glad I decided to ride and seventh in the last race was better than I’d hoped for.
“It’s been a difficult season and not where I wanted to be but now I can spend time getting my injuries sorted and come back much stronger next season.”
In the MX2 class, Charlie Richmond ended his first MX2 season showing speed to match the front runners but had a difficult day despite being near the front in both heats. Race one saw him get a great start, but was pushed outside in the first turn so lost a few places straight away - rounding lap one in seventh. He then began making his way forward and by lap six was in a solid fifth place and putting pressure on the rider in front of him, Joel Rizzi. But Richmond pushed too hard and wiped out in the sandy conditions. He remounted and got going again in 13th, managing to pull back to 11th at the line.
In the second race he once again got a flying start and held a fine fourth place for five laps until European championship regular Gyan Doensen squeezed by. Richmond rode hard and tried to hold off the 2025 champion Tommy Searle but the more experienced rider got past with three laps to go. That left Richmond in sixth place, for eighth overall and eighth in his first adult pro championship season. He finished on the same points as seventh-placed fellow Honda rider Jamie Keith.
Richmond said: “I had the pace but my crash in race one really cost me overall and I was pretty annoyed! I showed good speed this year and claimed my first podium in my rookie season. I didn’t expect any of this at the start of the season.
“Same grind, same vision and hungry for 2027.
“I can’t thank the whole Crendon FASTRACK Honda Racing squad enough for this year and especially S Briggs Commercial for being behind me the whole way.”
Team manager Ryan Thorpe said: “What a fantastic way to end the season with Conrad Mewse who did exactly as we hoped and took the British MX1 title with two race wins – that’s pure class. It’s a team effort so I have to thanks the mechanics for working so hard to get the bikes right all year, and of course our sponsors and technical partners who make it possible to go racing as such a high level.
“With solid rides today from Jamie Carpenter and Charlie Richmond, it’s been a fantastic end to the British championship season for everyone involved in the Crendon FASTRACK Honda team.”
