Luxury 5-bed Home - Harpenden, Hertfordshire

Crendon Timber Engineering designed and supplied the Attic Roof Trusses and Posi-Joist metal web joists for an exceptional 5-bed luxury home project by AWB Groupin Harpenden, Hertfordshire.

This project is a fantastic example of how specialist timber engineering can help bring ambitious designs to life, combining innovative structural solutions with beautiful architectural features.

Our Wellingborough branch designed and managed the project. Using MiTek Pamir to model the timber engineered elements, the team managed to design afully timber engineered trussed rafter solution without the requirement for any steels, significantly reducing build-time and project cost.

One of the standout features of the project is the impressive triple-height entrance hall, made possible by a carefully designed void in the first floor Posi-Joist metal web joist design. It allows uninterrupted views from the ground floor right up to the roof structure, creating a striking sense of space and light.

Our Wellingborough design team also created an intricate framing design to give the roof structure support by means of forming ‘wall’ trusses. These wall trusses were in locations of attic room partitions which were studded out to give the girder trusses more triangulation and additional strength. These wall trusses were the base to then frame the rest of the area, incorporating a large flat-topped attic with barn hips, rooflights, rear flat-roof dormers and front-facing gables.

This solution created a substantial 7.5m attic room while also accommodating a dedicated plant area for equipment such as the heat pump and water tank. Careful consideration was also given to the central floor void and stairwell layout to ensure both structural performance and architectural vision were achieved.

Working together, our East Harling and Wellingborough branches supplied the Posi-Joist metal web joists and the complex Attic Trusses. These were delivered 100% On Time, In Full, keeping the project on programme.
