Government Minister Remains Positive Regarding Housing Market Growth
With the annual House Builder Conference in London taking place last month, Crendon directors had the pleasure of meeting Alok Sharma, the Minister of State for Housing and Planning. Despite some industry concern over the levels of growth needed in the UK housing market, the minister urged a positive outlook during his speech, where Mr Sharma stated the growth of the market needs to achieve 250,000 houses per year vs the current 165,000. He anticipates some of this will come from increased build of major house builders, some from private individuals and most importantly from Modern methods of construction.
Mr Sharma, who was named housing minister this year, also discussed a programme to build new council and affordable housing, saying “everyone should feel a sense of fairness about the housing market”. Crendon’s directors welcomed his call for the government and the industry to work together to deliver sustainable solutions, with the first step being confirmation that the Help to Buy scheme will continue.Return to News Page
